One of my favorite parts of being a family photographer is getting to photograph people through different seasons of their lives. I’ve known this beautiful mama since she was a teenager, her stepmom is one of my oldest friends, so getting to photograph her now with a family of her own made this session especially sweet.

We photographed their fall family mini session at Old Borges Ranch in Walnut Creek, surrounded by golden grasses, oak trees and all of those warm California fall tones I love. Their wardrobe was perfect for the setting too; rich burgundy, plaid, cozy knits and little boots that worked beautifully against the natural landscape.

My favorite images from this session are the ones that happened in between the more traditional family portraits. Watching their little girl laugh and play with her mom gave us some of the sweetest photographs of the evening. Those natural interactions are always what I’m looking for, the images that feel like your family rather than simply everyone looking at the camera.

Old Borges Ranch is such a beautiful setting for Walnut Creek family photos, especially in the fall when everything takes on that warm, golden California look.
