2026 Fall Mini Sessions in Livermore, CA | Sarah Tyler Photography

Fall mini sessions are back! Fall will always be one of my favorite times to photograph families in the beautiful hills of the Tri-Valley. If you book in September and October you generally get the gorgeous golden grass and if you book around November you might be seeing greener hills. But no matter what we always get that gorgeous California evening glow that makes for a perfect back drop for updated family photos, and mini sessions are a great way to fit them into an already busy time of the year.

I’m so excited to be offering my 2026 Fall Mini Sessions in Livermore, Pleasanton, San Ramon and Dublin. Each fall mini session includes:

  • 20 minute outdoor afternoon/evening session
  • all custom edited digital files
  • personal online gallery to download and share with family
  • $375

These 20 minute sessions can also be for mini senior photoshoots, outdoor headshots, and maternity portraits. They allow for just enough time to capture a beautiful variety of images without making the session feel overwhelming, especially for families with little ones! We’ll capture the traditional portraits but also the candid, playful moments and connections that make your family….your family.

I’ve been photographing families throughout Livermore and the Tri-Valley for 17 years now and one of my favorite parts of being a family photographer is getting to watch families grow. Whether you’re looking for updated family portraits, photos for holiday cards, maternity portraits, or simply want to document this season of your family’s life, I’d love to photograph you.

My photography style is bright, natural, and timeless with a focus on genuine connection and of course getting that beautiful California light.

Del Valle Family Mini | Livermore Family Photographer

mom dad and son posing in hills of Livermore at Del Valle during family portraits

There’s something extra special about photographing a family when you’ve known their mama since kindergarten.

We photographed their session in the Livermore hills on one of those beautiful fall evenings when everything turns warm and golden. The open fields, oak trees, rustic fencing, and rolling hills made the perfect backdrop for their family photos and gave us so much variety in a short amount of time.

One of my favorite things about fall family sessions is mixing the classic family portraits with the less posed moments in between. We made sure to get plenty of the whole family together, but also took time for individual portraits, photos of just mom and dad, and a few more relaxed images exploring the hills. Those are often the photographs that give a gallery its personality.

And the styling for this session worked so well with the location. Their neutral colors, denim, boots, and subtle western touches complemented the golden landscape without competing with it, a great example of how coordinating colors and textures can bring a fall family gallery together without everyone needing to match.

I loved getting to photograph this family and preserve this season of their lives, especially for a friend I’ve known since we were little ourselves.

Fall Family Portraits | Pleasanton Family Photographer

Fall family sessions don’t always come with golden sunshine and this Pleasanton mini session is proof that they don’t need to.

We had a cloudy afternoon for this family’s fall photos, but the soft, even light ended up being beautiful. The muted sky paired perfectly with the warm fall colors, and we still created bright, gorgeous images with that soft look I love.

And the sisters completely stole the show.

Their little personalities, sweet hugs, and playful moments together made some of my favorite images from the entire session. I always make time for photos of the kids on their own during a family session, and sibling photos are especially fun because they capture a relationship that changes so quickly as they grow.

Of course, we made sure to get plenty of photographs of the whole family together too. Fall mini sessions may be short, but there is still time for a mix of classic family portraits along with the more relaxed, candid moments in between.

One of the things I love most about photographing families outdoors in Pleasanton is that every session feels a little different. Sunshine, clouds, golden hills or fall greenery, each brings something beautiful to the photographs.

If you’re considering fall family photos but see clouds in the forecast, don’t worry. Sometimes those soft, overcast days turn out to be some of the prettiest ones.

Pleasanton Fall Family Photos | Bay Area Family Photographer

expecting mom posing with husband and daughter with fall hills of Pleasanton behind them
This fall mini session was filled with so many of the things I love to capture, playful moments, little details, genuine connection, and plenty of movement. Mini sessions may be short, but there is still so much room to create a beautiful variety of images that feel natural and true to your family.

What to Wear for Fall Family Photos

This family also did such a beautiful job with their wardrobe. Rather than matching, they chose coordinating shades of cream, camel, denim, and warm golden yellow. The mix of colors and textures worked perfectly with the natural fall tones of the Pleasanton hills.

When choosing outfits for family photos, I always recommend starting with a soft, complementary color palette and then adding different textures and subtle patterns. The goal is for everyone to look like they belong together without wearing the same thing.

Fall Mini Sessions in Pleasanton

Fall is one of my favorite times of year to photograph families in the Tri-Valley. The hills take on those beautiful golden California tones, the evenings begin to cool down, and the light can be absolutely gorgeous.

My fall mini sessions are perfect for families who want updated family portraits without committing to a full session. They’re also a wonderful opportunity to create images for holiday cards and gifts while capturing a little piece of your family exactly as you are right now.

If you’ve been thinking about updating your family photos this fall, I’d love to photograph you in the beautiful hills of Pleasanton and the surrounding Tri-Valley.

Lime Ridge Family Portraits | Walnut Creek Family Photographer

Fall at Lime Ridge is one of my favorite times of year to photograph families in the East Bay. The trails soften, the colors stay warm and neutral, and the landscape creates an effortless, natural backdrop that keeps the focus on the people in the photographs. The open space, rolling hills and beautiful California light make Lime Ridge such a gorgeous location for family portraits in Walnut Creek.

This family brought such a calm, easy energy to their session. I loved the soft tones of their outfits and the way they naturally interacted together—it gave the entire gallery that relaxed, connected feeling I always want family photographs to have. And their pup fit right in, adding even more personality to the session.

Whether we’re photographing a full family session or a shorter seasonal session, my goal is the same: to create images that feel natural, timeless and genuinely connected. These are the photographs that capture not only what your family looked like, but what this season of life felt like.
